Municipal Election
Voting in Banff 101
-
Every Canadian citizen has the right to vote. It is how Canadians choose which leaders represent them. Voting is a responsibility that all Canadians should exercise. Your community is shaped by the outcome of an Election. Voting connects citizens with the political process and with each other. When you take part in an election and express your view, you make democracy work.
In the next election, Banff residents will vote to elect their Mayor, Councillors and School Board Trustees. Voting for your Mayor and Councillors gives you a say in the direction the Town of Banff will take. This includes changes and additions to services that impact residents’ daily, such as transit, parks, recreation programs, animal and bylaw services, waste collection, clean drinking water and police and fire services.
On October 20, 2025, residents will vote to elect Banff Town Council. Eligible voters will cast a vote for:
1 Mayor
6 Councillors
All positions are elected at large, representing the entire town.
To vote in the upcoming Banff Municipal Election, you must meet the eligibility requirements, provide proof of identity and address, and be registered to vote. Further details on eligibility requirements and what you need to vote are provided on this page.

Voting Time for Employees
According to section 58(1) of the Local Authorities Election Act, any employee who is eligible to vote has the right to three consecutive hours for voting while their voting station is open.
If the hours of an employee's employment do not allow for three consecutive hours, the employer shall allow the employee any additional time for voting in order to provide for the three consecutive hours. The additional time for voting is granted at the convenience of the employer.
No deduction in pay or any penalty will be imposed on an employee in order to provide the three consecutive hours to vote.
Example:
If your normal workday begins at 2 p.m. you would not be eligible for paid time off since you had four hours prior to the start of your workday to vote; similarly, if your normal workday ends at 5 p.m., with voting stations closing at 8 p.m., you would have three uninterrupted hours in which to vote so you would not be eligible for paid time off.
