Most inclusion conversations in the Bow Valley begin with instinct. Employers know their teams, they know their guests, and they have a sense of where they're doing well and where gaps exist. But instinct without evidence is hard to act on and harder to defend when you're trying to make the case for change inside your organization.
This webinar changes that. Drawing on BVPN's 2023 Bow Valley DEI Survey and regional research, James Demers walks through what the numbers reveal about the state of 2SLGBTQIA+ inclusion across tourism and hospitality workplaces in Banff, Canmore, and Lake Louise. The data is specific to this region not national averages applied to a mountain town, but findings drawn from the businesses, organizations, and community members who live and work here.

WHY THIS MATTERS IN THE BOW VALLEY
The Bow Valley is often cited as a progressive, welcoming destination, and in many ways it is. But progressive reputation and measurable workplace inclusion are not the same thing. BVPN's 2023 regional survey found that only 24% of respondents said 2SLGBTQIA+ needs had been incorporated into organizational policies and benefit programs. Only 43% reported that staff had received any form of DEI education or training. These numbers come from Bow Valley organizations, not a national sample. They reflect the real gap between how employers see themselves and what their practices actually measure.
In a region where tourism drives the economy and the workforce is drawn from across Canada and the world, that gap has consequences. Employees who don't feel safe or respected leave, often mid-season, when retention is most critical. Visitors who feel unwelcome or encounter undertrained staff don't return and don't recommend. In a destination economy built on repeat visitation and word-of-mouth reputation, inclusion isn't a values statement. It's an operational risk factor.
The Bow Valley by the Numbers webinar exists because evidence matters. Good intentions don't drive HR budgets or policy revisions, data does. This session gives Bow Valley employers the regional-specific evidence they need to have credible internal conversations about inclusion investment, and the framework to know where that investment will have the highest impact.
