Banff local launches their business with SMARTstart
Allan Buckingham, Founder of Chill Audio Visual Solutions, had learned the basics of business before. This Banff local had worked in the A/V industry for 15 years and even started a few of their own small ventures. But to successfully launch Chill A/V, they knew they needed accountability.
“It’s easy to think about the day-to-day of running your business, and what hike you’re doing this weekend,” said Allan, “But it’s harder to set aside time for long-term planning and the strategic work you know you should be doing.”
Allan joined Bow Valley Pride Network’s SMARTstart program in March 2025. The expert-led workshops have given Allan the time and space to tackle new business challenges and set next steps. The program’s partnership with the Bow Valley Chamber of Commerce has also helped them buildprofessional connections.
“There are so many business opportunities I know I should take advantage of, and SMARTstart gives me the resources and the time do them. Networking is one of those things,” explained Allan. “As an introvert, SMARTstart has helped me connect with the wider business community and feel like I’m already a part of it.”
Applications are now open for the Fall 2025 cohort.
Spots are limited, and preference is given to 2SLGBTQIA+ residents of the Bow Valley. Allies are welcome to apply and will be considered as space allows.
